What Causes Dry Eye?

Meibomian Gland Dystrophy (MGD)

Aqueous Deficiency

  • When your eyes do not produce enough tears, it is often caused by aqueous deficiency. This type of dry eye disease is the least common cause accounting for only about a tenth of cases.

Evaporative Dry Eye

  • The tear film is made up of 3 distinct layers, a mucus layer to keep the tear in contact with the eye, a water layer to keep the eye hydrated, and an oil layer to keeps the water from evaporating. If any of the 3 layers are out of balance, evaporative dry eye is the result.

How We Diagnose and Treat Dry Eyes

IPL Therapy

At Frisco Family Eye Care, we offer IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy as an advanced treatment option for certain eye conditions. IPL therapy is a non-invasive procedure that uses light pulses to target and address specific issues related to dry eye syndrome and meibomian gland dysfunction.

The treatment works by stimulating the natural production of tears and improving the function of the meibomian glands, which are essential for tear film stability. IPL therapy is a secure and effective way to improve overall eye health and relieve dry eye discomfort.
